The eco-responsibility of graphic design
The environmental issue is becoming a problem in itself.
introduction
Indeed, we base our society on the intention of always consuming more. However, it is our responsibility, and moreover, that of the graphic designer - who is the main shaper of messages inciting to consume - to change our lifestyles. This article allows us to determine the reasons and the objectives of the digital designer to question his approach in order to lead to an eco-responsible practice.
Through the eyes and actions of the graphic designer and the prospects themselves, the very need for the graphic object is questioned.
These questions indicate that the work of the graphic designer can lead prospects and institutions to become aware of ecological issues by also adapting to different communication needs. It would indeed be important to do less and more sustainable, by using low-tech, by upcycling digital waste, by doing ecobranding to create graphic products that consume less energy, by reducing our use of digital objects or, at least, by limiting the energy cost of digital by privileging, for example, the dark mode or simply by deleting emails.
It is therefore essential that the graphic designer improves his profession to have a more responsible approach. Their goal should not only be to create a graphic support but also to rethink its function and its utility in our society.
